Practical Fabrication Advice
1,Prevent Oxidation ("Sugaring"): When executing your TIG weld around the outer collar of the base, always back-purge the internal rail tubing with Argon gas. This stops the steel from burning inside the tube where saltwater condensation can settle and weaken the structural root.
2,Heat Sink Protection: Because the rectangular mounting plate sits close to the welding socket, use temporary copper backing blocks or a damp heat-absorbent paste on the polished base face. This protects the mirror finish from heat tinting and weld spatter.
