About Long D Shackles
A long D shackle (also known as an elongated chain shackle) is a piece of load-bearing connection hardware that features a narrower, significantly elongated "D" or "U" shaped loop compared to standard shackles. This extended internal length provides deeper clearance to span greater distances between fixing points or to attach to long, thick, or irregular objects.
Key Features Elongated Throat: The deeper inside height provides an extended reach, making it easier to attach multiple ropes, chains, or links. In-Line Loading Only: Like all chain/D shackles, they are strictly rated for straight, in-line tension. Side loading can twist, stress, or bend the shackle. Removable Pin: They typically use a threaded screw pin that can be removed entirely from the body for quick connections. Some specialty versions feature captive pins that won't fall out when unscrewed.
Premium Materials: They are most commonly forged or cast out of 304 or 316 marine-grade stainless steel to survive harsh, corrosive environments.
