Marine raw water intake sea strainer (seawater filter) made from heavy-duty cast 316 stainless steel.
Core Purpose & System Integration
This component completes the final stage of your boat's primary raw-water intake safety and supply line:
1. The Flow Path: Seawater passes through your hull scoop strainer, flows straight up past your emergency seacock, and travels directly into the inlet port of this sea strainer.
2. Filtration Mechanics: Water enters the side port and tumbles through an internal perforated stainless steel mesh basket. The screen traps fine gravel, fragmented seagrass, small pebbles, and smaller marine organisms that managed to slip past the initial hull scoop grates.
3. Downstream Protection: Clean, debris-free water leaves through the outlet port to directly supply your engine cooling heat exchangers, marine air conditioning systems, generators, or livewell pumps. This prevents devastating engine overheating and mechanical pump degradation.
Distinctive Design Elements
• Top Transparent Inspection Cover: Secured by heavy-duty wing nuts and swing bolts, allowing you to visually inspect the internal basket for clogs or check for suction air bubbles without opening the housing.
• Side-Inlet / Side-Outlet (SISO) Ports: High-capacity female NPT threaded connections tailored for clean, high-volume flow geometry.
• Bottom Drain Plug & Grounding Stud: Features a bottom-mounted hex bolt to drain seawater for easy winterization and a threaded electrical grounding stud to protect the assembly from galvanic corrosion inside the bilge.
