316 marine-grade stainless steel straight thru-hull tank vent (often referred to as a clamshell, scoop, or cowl vent). It is explicitly designed to mount through a vessel's hull or transom to provide essential structural breathing for onboard fuel, freshwater, or graywater holding tanks.
Core Design & Functional Details
• The Cowl/Clamshell Hood: The polished shield covering the opening points downward or down-and-outward when installed. This curved hood configuration permits air to escape or enter freely while acting as a barrier to deflect sea spray, washing splashes, and exterior debris away from entering the tank line.
• Fully Threaded Body: Unlike standard barb-only vents, this fully threaded stem allows it to accommodate varying hull or fiberglass deck thicknesses. The matching locking nut tightly compresses against the interior hull surface.
• Internal Wire Mesh (Flame/Insect Screen): Tucked inside the cowl opening is an integrated fine stainless steel wire mesh screen. This screen acts both as an insect guard (stopping mud daubers or wasps from building nests that block ventilation) and as a basic flame arrestor for gas tank applications.
