Unlike the flush-mount varieties that require drilling large hole-saw cavities directly into the deck, side-mount rod holders are engineered to bolt vertically onto flat, vertical interior structures. They are the ideal choice for maximizing deck space along vertical transom walls, center console bulkheads, cockpit coamings, or cabin structures where behind-the-deck clearance is tightly restricted or inaccessible.
Mechanical Design & Features
• Integrated Dual Brackets: Features heavy-duty, pre-welded side ears designed with countersunk mounting holes to secure directly to vertical fiberglass or aluminum panels using flat-head stainless screws.
• Weatherproof Bottom Guard: The bottom of the stainless tube is sealed with a durable, form-fitted black polymer base cap. This prevents the metallic base from scratching your boat's gelcoat or catching lines, while leaving small escape cutouts to drain rain and washdown water away cleanly.
• Internal Rod Protection: The top section houses a rolled black vinyl polymer inner liner. This acts as a protective collar that protects your premium rod handles from scratching, marring, or rattling loose against the steel edge under heavy sea conditions.
• Cross Gimbal Pin: Most standard versions include an internal base cross-pin to lock into the slotted butt of offshore big-game fishing rods, preventing the rod and reel assembly from rotating while the vessel is under power.
