Elevated / Long-Reach Pivot: The hinge pin is raised significantly higher than the base plates. This critical design feature allows thick, heavy fiberglass deck hatches—especially those with thick rubber weather-stripping or deep gutter seals—to open fully to 90 degrees or more without binding or pinching against the deck frame.
Removable Quick-Release Pin: The central pivot pin includes a small retaining ring. This allows you to pull the pin out manually and completely remove the hatch lid from the boat floor in seconds without having to unscrew the base plates.
6-Hole Heavy Load Base: The wide, winged layout features 6 countersunk holes (3 on each side). This spreads out massive weight loads and physical leverage across a wider area of the fiberglass deck, preventing the fiberglass from spider-cracking over time.
Marine-Grade 316 Stainless Steel: It is made of solid cast steel polished to a mirror-like shine. This ensures the hinge remains entirely rust-proof and smooth-moving when continually exposed to pooling saltwater and heavy foot traffic.
Project & Installation Tips
Fastener Choices: Always use #10 or #12 marine-grade 316 stainless steel countersunk flathead screws. The countersunk holes ensure the screw heads sit perfectly flush with the metal base so nobody stubs their bare toes or snags a fishing line.
Waterproofing the Holes: If you are drilling through your boat floor to mount this hinge, always pack the raw pilot holes with a quality marine adhesive sealant (like 3M 4200) before driving the screws home. This keeps water from seeping into and rotting out your boat's plywood or balsa core.
