Marine Skene Bow Chocks/Angled Bow Chocks (also commonly referred to as Fairleads). These are essential deck hardware components used on yachts, motorboats, and sailing vessels.
Key Functions & Characteristics
Line Guiding & Security: Their primary function is to guide and route dock lines, anchor lines, or mooring lines while keeping them securely in place. The distinctive angled, overlapping "Skene" design ensures that the rope stays trapped within the chock, preventing it from accidentally popping out even when the vessel tosses or rolls violently in rough waters.
Chafe Prevention: They provide a perfectly smooth, rounded path for the ropes to pass through. The highly polished surface significantly reduces friction, preventing expensive mooring lines from fraying or snapping and protecting the boat's gelcoat/hull surface from abrasive rope rub.
Marine-Grade Material: They are precision-cast from heavy-duty Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel and finished with a flawless mirror polish. This specific alloy provides maximum resistance against rust, pit corrosion, and the harsh elements of salt-water environments.
Installation: Each chock features a flat, heavy-duty base plate equipped with pre-drilled countersunk holes for flush-mount screw or bolt installation onto the boat’s gunwale or bow deck. They are always sold and installed in mirrored left-hand and right-hand pairs.
