Stud-Mount Deck Cleat, typically manufactured from high-quality, corrosion-resistant 316 marine-grade stainless steel. This hardware functions as a structural tie-off point on boats, yachts, and docks to securely fasten mooring, dock, and spring lines.
Unlike traditional cleats that use exposed surface-mounting screws, a stud-mount cleat features threaded rods welded directly to the base. This design ensures a clean, hidden fastener look on the deck surface while optimizing structural load transfer.
Core Installation Principles
Through-Bolting Required: Never use wood screws or lag bolts alone. Always secure the integrated threaded studs through the deck with backing washers and lock nuts.
Backing Plates: Use a robust stainless steel backing plate or extra-large heavy-duty washers underneath the deck to distribute high pulling forces across the fiberglass layout.
Waterproof Sealant: Apply a flexible marine-grade sealant like Life-Seal or 3M 4200 around the pre-drilled deck holes to protect the underlying deck core from water rot. Do not use 3M 5200, as it prevents future removal.

If you are preparing for a new installation, please share:
Your boat's overall length (to calculate the correct cleat size).
The deck material thickness and core type (e.g., solid fiberglass or cored wood).
Whether you have open underside access to screw on the backing nuts.
We can then provide step-by-step sizing recommendations and custom drilling instructions.
