While a traditional mooring bitt is a solid metal post, this version features a functional vertical split down the core center of its main shaft.
How the Split Design Works
The Slotted Center: The vertical gap is precisely calibrated to match the diameter of short-link anchor chains (typically sizing from 8mm to 13mm). You drop a single chain link vertically into the slot, and the cross-sections of the adjacent links instantly jam flat against the outer metal shaft. This locks your anchor rode in place mechanically, safely transferring heavy tension off your windlass winch directly onto the boat's structural deck.
Captive Spring Pins: Premium iterations incorporate a horizontal, spring-loaded quick-release pin that slides directly across the central split. Once your anchor chain or heavy rope is slotted inside, the pin snaps shut over it to guarantee the line cannot accidentally jump free during rough tidal breaks or wind swells.
Horizontal Crossbars: The standard cross T-arms extending out from the sides provide clean wrapping anchors to tie down traditional figure-eight cleat hitches using braided dock lines.
