What does swageless mean? A swageless terminal or termination is a type of end fitting that will be applied to wire rope. Connection points are easily created between two ropes. Or to create a connection between the rope and an existing fitting on your worksite. Its use will depend upon the type of swageless fitting chosen. The swageless term refers to the fact that this is only a temporary connection, and will be manually fitted by hand. There are special jaw type parts within the fitting ( you will notice these protruding from the end in the image). Which, when tightened up will clamp onto the rope holding it firmly in place. This is in contrast to a swaged terminal, which has been pressured down by a machine using extreme force and pressure, which creates a permanent fitting. This Swageless Self-Assembly Terminal with 3 Jackscrews (often referred to as grub screws or set screws) is a specialized mechanical wire rope fitting used to terminate steel cables on-site without expensive, heavy hydraulic crimping machinery. Key Features No Swaging Tools Required: You only need basic hand tools like an Allen key (hex wrench) and standard spanners to secure the cable. Triple Jackscrew Security: The 3 jackscrews thread directly into the side of the terminal sleeve. They bite down securely onto the wire rope strands to prevent slipping under high tension. Marine-Grade Material: Typically machined from T316 stainless steel. This offers premium resistance to rust, saltwater, and harsh weather. On-Site Adjustability: Because it locks mechanically, you can trim your cable to the exact length right at the installation point. You do not need precise pre-measurements.
General Installation StepsCut the Cable: Ensure a clean, square cut on your stainless steel wire rope. Insert into Sleeve: Push the bare cable end fully into the bottom hole of the swageless terminal. Tighten Jackscrews: Alternately tighten down the 3 side grub screws using an Allen wrench. This compresses the internal cable strands. Lock and Tension: Use the opposite end (e.g., threaded stud, fork, or eye) to connect to your post or anchor and apply final tension.
