What does swageless mean? A swageless terminal or termination is a type of end fitting that will be applied to wire rope. Connection points are easily created between two ropes. Or to create a connection between the rope and an existing fitting on your worksite. Its use will depend upon the type of swageless fitting chosen. The swageless term refers to the fact that this is only a temporary connection, and will be manually fitted by hand. There are special jaw type parts within the fitting ( you will notice these protruding from the end in the image). Which, when tightened up will clamp onto the rope holding it firmly in place. This is in contrast to a swaged terminal, which has been pressured down by a machine using extreme force and pressure, which creates a permanent fitting. A major benefit of swageless terminals is that the connection is not permanent and therefore both the terminal and wire rope can be disconnected from each other. They can then be re-used which makes them popular in a range of industries. They can also be fitted on site with the right tools. A swageless deck toggle terminal is a highly popular, labor-saving hardware piece used in cable railing systems. It secures the cable to a flat surface like a wooden post or wall without the need for expensive, specialized hydraulic crimping (swaging) tools. How it Works? Swageless Mechanical Lock: The fitting contains a one-way locking mechanism that securely grips the cable. Once pushed in, the cable cannot be pulled out, ensuring a permanent hold. Adjustable Toggle: The hinged toggle allows for up to 135° of movement, making this fitting ideal for angled cable runs on stairways and ramps. It is used in combination with Swageless Deck Toggle Turnbuckle on each side of the railing.
Material: Typically constructed from Type 316 marine-grade stainless steel, providing superior resistance to rust and corrosion in both indoor and outdoor environments. Installation & Considerations Tool-Free Assembly: You only need basic hand tools (like wrenches or screwdrivers) to screw the toggle base to your surface and lock the cable inside the terminal. Fixed vs. Tensioning End: These terminals are usually used as the "fixed" (non-tensioning) end of a cable run. You will need a complementary tensioner or turnbuckle at the opposite end of the cable to pull it taut. Cable Sizing: Always ensure your toggle terminal matches the diameter of your cable (commonly 1/8'' and 3/16'').
