This Drop Pin Swage Stud Terminal (also known as a flipper pin, toggle pin, or automatic drop pin terminal) is a highly specialized, hidden anchor fitting designed for stainless steel cable railing systems and architectural wire rope installations. Its key design advantage is the articulating or gravity-drop pin mounted at the leading tip of a swage shank. This allows the terminal to be pushed through a pre-drilled post hole from the inside; once it clears the exterior wall of the post, the pin automatically drops or flips perpendicularly, locking the cable assembly securely against the post exterior without requiring an external hex nut or washer. Main Engineering & Design Features:Blind Hole / Blind Post Installation: It is explicitly engineered for installations where you cannot access the back or inside of an end post, or where you want a clean exterior look with zero protruding bolt threads or nuts. No-Nut Structural Anchor: Traditional swage studs require a tensioning nut on the outside of the post. The drop pin eliminates this, using the flipped pin itself as the load-bearing shoulder. Cable Strain Relief: Because the pin can pivot slightly, it naturally self-aligns to accommodate the slight angular deflection found in pitched runs, such as stair balustrades and ramps.
Standard Cable Diameters: Optimized primarily for the two most prominent architectural cable sizes:1/8 Inch (3.2mm): The residential standard for unobstructed views.3/16 Inch (4.8mm): The commercial-grade or high-tension standard for structural durability. Installation Mechanics: The hollow shank accepts standard 1x19, 7x19, or 7x7 structural stainless steel wire ropes. It requires mechanical crimping via an on-site hydraulic crimping tool or a dedicated bench swager to cold-form the metal sleeve permanently onto the wire strands. Premium Material: Almost exclusively manufactured from Grade 316 (T316) Stainless Steel (or AISI 316 marine-grade). This guarantees superior resistance to pitting, rust, and chloride corrosion in oceanfront or exposed outdoor residential decks.
